WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO RECEIVE IF YOU ATTEND FOR COUNSELLING OR PSYCHOTHERAPY?

 I will provide a comfortable, safe and confidential environment where you can relax and discuss your problems openly.

 I will assess your problem and if I can help, ongoing appointments will be mutually arranged.

 If, after speaking to me, you do not wish to enter into a contract there will be no charge   for your first visit

Everything you talk about is strictly confidential in that no information about you or your problems will be disclosed to anyone else without your permission.  The only exception to this would be when I think that your life or that of other's is at risk or in instances of disclosed child abuse. In these instances, I would inform you that I intended to breach confidentiality.

 

COMING FOR COUNSELLING?

You may feel awkward or nervous when you come for counselling the first time.  Don’t worry, most people feel the same way.

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

If you wish to explore more fully core aspects of yourself that trouble you a longer term commitment may be necessary. This is the main difference between counselling and psychotherapy.  As with counselling, psychotherapy involves an agreement between yourself and the therapist regarding your time commitment, which is reviewed as necessary.

There are many different types of psychotherapy.  They involve different ways of helping people to overcome stress, emotional problems, relationship problems or troublesome habits.  What they have in common is that they are all based on talking to another person.

 

WHAT WOULD I EXPECT FROM YOU?

I would expect that:

you attend punctually, or if you are unable to attend, that appointments are cancelled within 48 hours of your appointment, otherwise you will be charged for your appointment.

 you do not attend under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

you make a commitment to attend mutually agreed appointments on set dates and times.

payment will be made at the end of each session, either by cheque or by cash settlement.

 

WHAT IS PSYCHOTHERAPY?

There are many different types of psychotherapy.  They involve different ways of helping people to overcome stress, emotional problems, relationship problems or troublesome habits.  What they have in common is that they all based on talking to another person. Psychotherapy looks at the links between your past history and your present problems.   

The aim is to liberate you from childhood patterns or traumas, so you understand why you feel the way you do and have a choice about how you think, feel and operate in the future.

 

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Understanding yourself better, feeling able to cope with your emotions, and looking at patterns of behaviour which limit your potential.  Anxiety, behaviour, feeling depressed, anger you do not know how to control, eating disorders, general malaise, lack of confidence, tendency to self-defeating behaviour or lack of meaning in your life, are some of the problems which may be addressed by counselling.

 

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The first initial 30 minute session is free, thereafter each 50 minute session costs £35.
Payment should be made at the end of each counselling session.

 

WHO IS IT FOR?

Counselling and psychotherapy suits everyone, from all walks of life and people seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Therapy attracts people who are curious about themselves and how they operate in the world on a deep and subtle level. 

 

WHAT STANDARD OF CARE CAN I EXPECT TO RECEIVE?

I subscribe to the code of ethics of the Institute of Transactional Analysis , which is a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
I am in regular supervision which fulfils the requirements of the EATA and UKCP.
